The Water Sounds Cold

Mars Tarassenko

night swimming with you

i tilt my head back

as far as it goes

almost until it snaps

the stars shuttering

winking through

the clouds seeming to stay in solidarity

the sound of the cold water

rushing around your body

the laughter

serenity

spontaneity

serendipity

a snake wrapping its trunk around your throat

the droplets fogging up the glass

the moon glowing red

life sounds and feels like

peace seemingly achievable

melancholic escapes throughout the summer heat

cold wind whipping through you as if to say

stay awhile
